Half a million adults have gambling problem

The number of people gambling has gone up by 5% with 73% of over-16s betting in the last year.
Problem gamblers are up from 0.6% to 0.9% of the population, a poll found.
The most popular activity in 2010 was the National Lottery with 59% of adults buying tickets.
The Responsible Gambling Strategy Board said: “We need a better understanding of how to help problem gamblers.”
Bookies’ group the ABB said: “The majority gamble safely and responsibly.
