New Delhi:- In a four Hour long surgery, doctors at west Delhi's Action Cancer Hospital removed a seven kg cancerous tumour from the ovary of a 45 year old woman.
At the time of admission on January 27, Prabha Devi, ((name changed) , had an abnormally inflated abdomen. She had also been experiencing irregular menstrual cycles for the past few years. Immediate tests detected a 27 cm- long tumour within her abdomen, so she was operated on the same day.
"We were operating taking taking it to be a normal tumour just large in size. It was the frozen section test that we conducted after removing the tumour that detected cancer. So, we performed complete surgery right there", said Dr.DK Das, gynaeoncologist at the hospital. " If the test wouldn't have been done immediately, we would have removed the tumour, leaving the cancerous cell behind".
Doctors simultaneously also repaired her damaged frontal abdominal wall, which otherwise would have required to undergo another surgery.
Devi now needs to undergo six cycles of chemotherapy.
She will have to get examined once in three months for the next two years and then once in six months for five years to look out for any relapse.
